Articles about the idea of pilgrimage, and advice and resources for those considering developing new routes.
"We can... help people to become pilgrims. The desire for pilgrimage... was one of the great motifs in Celtic Christianity... Pilgrimage did not just mean going to a particularly holy shrine. It involved a whole approach to life and faith which stressed the themes of journeying, travelling and moving on. It meant sitting lightly to the things of the world and understanding that here we have no abiding city. It led people to join up with others as they walked the great highway of faith." (Dr Ian Bradley, Entertaining Angels - on the Sacred Scotland website)

A "Theology for the way" - Dan Gafvert, a Scottish Episcopalian minister and CTA member, has written a personal perspective on the themes of pilgrimage, tourism and spirituality.
Originally from Sweden, he came to Scotland, liked it and stayed. Very much in his own way and his own words (quite an achievement in a non-native language), the 43-page paper aims to provide some inspiration for those involved in concepts of pilgrimage, and encourage further studies and development.
You can download the paper Pilgrim Theology by Dan Gafvert (but be aware of the size of document before you attempt to print a copy).
Dan has also provided some further ideas on the theme of a 'Pilgrim's Passport, including some interesting ideas about 'summer churches' in a shorter paper Churches Passport by Dan Gafvert. |
