The North Yorkshire Church Tourism Initiative was a partnership project set up by The Churches Regional Commission for Yorkshire and the Humber and Yorkshire Tourist Board to promote and enhance the region's churches and places of worship as spiritual, cultural and heritage assets.
Aims of the Initiative

- To provide opportunities for churches to build links with the wider community through the involvement of local groups in the development of interpretation
- To increase the contribution that churches can make to sustainable rural tourism by actively promoting church tourism
- To enable churches to provide a more effective ministry to visitors by considering their needs and providing the resources to meet them
The Yorkshire Tourist Board and the Churches Regional Commission for Yorkshire and the Humber were co applicants for various grants. The Yorkshire Tourist Board is a member of Churches Tourism Association. More information: http://www.yorkshirevisitor.com/yorkshirechurches
