Norwich Diocese has had a tourism officer for many years and has organised many initiatives around opening up churches to visitors and sharing the cultural and spiritual history including the Norfolk Broads and Rivers Open Churches Project (2005-2008). Building on all this previous work, in February 2010 Jennie Hawks, formerly Open Churches Officer, was appointed as the Churches Discovery Project Support Officer to work full-time for three years. She will be supported by the Churches Discovery Management Group chaired by Archdeacon of Norfolk.
The Discovery Project aims to develop a network of at least 40 parish churches, which will act as centres for the interpretation and promotion of this internationally important part of our heritage. Website: norwich.anglican.org/visiting/discovery.
